Krishi Vigyan Kendras: Farming of food crops is not remunerative: MS Swaminathan

MS Swaminathan , father of the Green Revolution that changed farming in India, weighs in on fixing the agri crisis. Excerpts from an email interview: We seem to have come a full circle from the Green Revolution, with farmers even in irrigated areas not making enough money to survive. What is the way forward? The current problems of farmers largely relate to the monsoon, market, procurement, pricing and import-export policies. The way forward lies in orienting technology and public policy to meet the current challenges. The Green Revolution taught us that farm problems can be overcome if there is synergy between technology, public policy and farmers’ participation.
